Leh Once again - 2016

Here was Our trip itenary -
  1. 29th May - Delhi To Pathankot
  2. 30th May - Pathankot to Patni Top
  3. 31st May - Patni Top to Sonamarg
  4. 2nd June - Sonamarg to Biamah via kargil-batalik
  5. 3rd June - Biamah to Leh
  6. 5th June - Leh to Thoise via Hunder-Diskit
  7. 6th June - Thoise-Turtuk-Thoise
  8. 7th June - Thoise to Pangong Tso/Tangtse via Agham-Shyok
  9. 8th June - Pangong to Nyoma via Chushul.
  10. 9th June -   Nyoma to Tso Moriri to Nyoma
  11. 10th June - Nyoma to Jispa.
  12. 11th-12th June - Jispa to Manali to Delhi.
In the planning I took the following considerations -
  1. Took adequate rest in beginning to not feel rushed.
  2. Not to drive for more than 6-7 Hrs a day. So there is atleast half a day left to rest and appreciate the surroundings.
Some things to consider this year -
  1. Lots of traffic at Srinagar during day which worsens because of new 4 lane highway being made and existing highway under total neglect. Better to cross Srinagar in Night. Same for Manali.
  2. Hunder to Pangong via Agham-Shyok is doable this year. But DONT DO in rains. There was some dry river/streams bed crossings. This helps to avoid crossing khardungla again
  3. One way traffic is there at Zojila. Sonamarg side traffic is opened in morning around 11 AM. NOT BEFORE THAT.
  4. Sumdo to Tso Kar on the way back from Tso Moriri is in bad shape.

Leh palace Ruins

Leh palace

I assumed leh palace to be like the other rajasthan palaces i have seen. They are nice strcutures with some ornamental artwork on walls which remind you of the great past. Leh palace was a ruin, It is currently undergoing renovation. Myself and prashant were the only 2 brave souls who ventured over some precarious ladders to reach its very top.
